Hello dear, soon I will be traveling. I would like to inquire about supplements that give energy to work throughout the day. Is there a deep sleep supplement that I need for a plane?

Hi  – please watch this video in the Mold & Mycotoxin Illness course, which explains what nutrients are needed in the energy production cycle. It explains mitochondrial support, which is the powerhouse in our cells, and what generates our energy currency called ATP.

As for sleep support, melatonin is usually the go-to sleep-aid remedy to help a person fall asleep and is for short-term use.

Hello dear, I can’t find it on the Supplements described in the course. I can’t get it quickly. Can you prescribe for me the supplements that are in Iherb?

I need a sleep supplement for my kids because it’s a long trip? Can you send me melatonin suitable for them.

    Hey ,

Kids can suffice with lower dosages of melatonin, but it does help to know how old your kids are. I like to start with low dosages as well (0.5-1mg) since high dosages can lead to other problems, like headaches, nausea, drowsiness, daytime sleepiness and agitation.

I’m based in The Netherlands, so I’m not so sure if we see the same brands when I go to iHerb. From the brands available in my iHerb webstore I like Life Extensions. Usually I like Thorne, although their dosages in this case (3 and 5 mg) are kinda high for kids who never used melatonin. I would first like to know how they have reacted to lower dosages.

    Thank you Daniel, for clarifying.

My children did not use melatonin before they were six and ten years old. I only want it for long plane trips.

I will use it before to make sure it does not cause any side effects.

What is the appropriate dose for adults?

What the best brands are appropriate to support mitochondrial and give more energy ?

oh I thought this was for adults. No, I wouldn’t recommend it for kids. If you want to help them adjust to the time difference, start preparing their bodies by slightly shifting bed time & dinner time accordingly a few days before travel.

You can checkout this post on jet lag where I share tips in the caption: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cs6Ph7ZJupg/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

You can also download the app called Timeshifter which helps prepare for international travel. First trip is free to try.

I share the different nutrients and some sample formulas/brands for energy production in the video I shared.

If those aren’t available or you don’t have time to wait for them to be shipped through Fullscript, you can search by ingredient or “energy formulas” and see if they contain the below ingredients.

The energy cycle needs these key nutrients:
    -Magnesium
    -CoQ10
    -Carnitine
    -B vitamins
    -Alpha lipoid acid
    -Zinc
    -Copper
-oxygen/iron (only take iron if needed)

There are many different types of formulas out there, each focusing on a different part of the citric acid cycle and cellular metabolism as I explain in the video. It’s a big process with many steps and conversions that rely on many different nutrients to create energy.

There are also many things that can hinder that process like toxins, lack of oxygen (sleep apnea, asthma, histamine mediated response of airways, etc), stress, insulin resistance, anything that causes the immune system to be inflamed (cytokines, interleukins, nfkb, etc). All of these will affect energy production negatively.

So again, even with supplementation, it’s important to work on what is hindering energy production along with supplementing with cofactors needed to make energy to have effect.

    Hope this helps.

A question that always baffles me, do we continue taking supplements for life, or do I stop and change them every three months? How do I know if I have reached a satisfactory result or improved from mold and stop cleaning? Or should cleaning take longer than a year or more?

that’s a great question with a lot of variables.

Knowing when to stop taking supplements or following a certain protocol depends on your symptoms (progress, no progress, or worsening of symptoms) and labwork. If progress has been made by addressing the root cause of the issue, you can usually stop supplementation and maintain your level of health.

When someone is actively working to reduce their body burden from mold, in general, it can take 6 months to a year once they’re out of mold. Once they feel optimal again, they can go on a “maintenance” protocol which may or may not include supplements.

However genetics do come into play as well. I will usually factor in genetics once a person is feeling better after being on a protocol to help ensure they stay well as “maintenance”. If for example, someone has a strong history of cancers in their family, I’m usually suspicious of a genetic SNP that compromises their ability to detoxify. In that case, knowing their genetic “weaknesses” can help maintain their health by supplementing accordingly. And for some, yes, that might be lifelong supplementation to compensate for these genetic SNPs.

    Hope that makes sense?

There is a history of cancer in the family. Will the recovery process be longer? And longer maintenance?

no not necessarily. I used that as an example to show how we can use nutraceutical supplements and lifestyle changes to positively alter genes (called epigenetics). Once a person gets well, I like to look at genes to help them stay well.

Is there a specific order to take vitamins and minerals? Vitamins are taken in the morning and minerals at night

it depends on the type of supplement. You can find more information about how to take supplements in this “When to take supplements” handout in the Resource Library.
