    Hi B

I remember reading something you wrote recently that your clients who are on Bupa are able to claim almost all functional tests

I just tried submitting and claiming a GI stool test but they rejected me . I wonder if you or any members have experience with bupa on these matters . I have premium network membership and they claim that they do not cover “ experimental treatment “

Thanks for your advise or feedback on this

Not sure where you’re based Yasmin. I’m with BUPA select plan and only came across by accident BUPA cover functional medicine test when I went to see a BUPA registered Endocrinologist consultant.

Before the consultant ordered the tests, who’s also a functional medicine practitioner, I contacted BUPA to confirm if they cover functional medicine tests. It was under their 3 in one bundle diagnostics tests, they did. In my case, I had to do cortisol stress and will be doing a metabolomix plus test.

@Yasmin atassi I’m glad Naveed jumped in with some information because I really don’t know. I would contact Bupa directly and share the information he shared to see what they say. Maybe it’s a regional issue as well? He’s in the UK.

I also know from a previous insurance company we used, that Cigna and Cigna International offer very different benefits. “International” was amazing, and did cover these types of tests. Regular Cigna didn’t. Maybe it’s the same with Bupa? I believe they have “Bupa international”.

Please let us know what you find out, as I’m sure it can help others as well in the future.

@Bernadette Abraham Before BUPA, I was with Cigna through my workplace. They didn’t cover functional medicine tests.

This time I purely stumbled across a consultant who is traditionally a medical doctor in endocrinology and functional medicine doctor.

Otherwise, I was self funding my own lab tests, like GI map, Genova stool tests or any other functional medicine tests.

Thank you so much both @Bernadette Abraham and @Naveed Aslam . Am in Dubai so yes it may be a regional issue . They do cover consultations with naturopaths though so it’s strange they don’t cover some of the tests . I am still trying through my broker but I thought to reach out here in case peeps here have any experience

@Yasmin atassi let us know if there’s a difference between “International Bupa” and regular Bupa.

@Bernadette Abraham it doesn’t seems to be . According to my broker it’s the same policy , it’s just that here if you have UAE residency you have to buy the policy issued by Sukoon but apparently benefits are the same . Or so they say ! Am fighting towards getting it covered as my relative is with orient ( local insurance ) and they got the stool test covered !
