Hello everyone, I recently had tests done for the thyroid gland, hormones, and blood, but I was shocked that the thyroid gland became active after being dormant for many years, and I feel very tired and stressed all the time.

My weight has lost a lot. I cannot do my daily duties at all. Is the gland the cause?

    My doctor just

has reduced the dose of thyroid medication to 75 grams.

Can you advise me what to do to regain my health?

    Hey @Sara Almansoori,

Based on these labs I can understand why you would feel tired. However, the weight loss would be unexpected.

These labs show that your brain tries to activate your thyroid by releasing TSH. It does that by producing a lot of it since your thyroid seems not to respond very well. It’s like your brain is trying to yell to your thyroid gland “Do something!”. That’s why you see elevations in TSH.

The thyroid gland for some reason is not responding to that. The hormones fT4 and fT3 that help run your metabolism are low. Especially fT3 is low, which is the active form of thyroid hormone. fT4 is a precursor for fT3.

This could be the reason why you feel tired, but most people with a slow thyroid complain about gaining weight.

Based on these labs doctors will usually prescribe more thyroid hormones, not less.

Do you know what reason your doctor had to prescribe fewer medications?

Unfortunately, we do not have thyroid specialists, so I do not know what to do.

I adding iodine into my system three months ago, and I think because of that HST levels increased.

I think I lost weight because I treated my insulin resistance and because of fasting.

@Sara Almansoori we have a lot of resources that can help you regarding your struggles with thyroid function.

This video discusses reasons for Low T3 that should be investigated. I would also suggest you schedule an appointment with Dr. Skorski at HealthBay or Dr. Erzebett Makk at Zia Medical to discuss prescribing a compounded T3. It is T3 that is the active thyroid hormone which has effect in the body. Having a clinically low T3 and Free T3 will for sure cause a person to feel tired despite being on T4 thyroid hormone.

I would also suggest getting your thyroid antibodies tested. Click here for what a full thyroid panel should include.
