Is there a way to block thc absorption from body?
Posted by hannahsyed1 on May 2, 2024 at 4:48 pmMy brother has been put on olanzapine and has shown great improvement, he however developed A delusion that thc will help him heal spiritually. He never used drugs before and had no interest, but now, suddenly thinks using it helps him. Unfortunately it just makes his psychosis worse. Is there an herb or some kind of detox supplement to block the absorption of thc? When he doesn’t take thc he becomes completely normal, he’s poisoning himself and doesn’t realize it. Please help

Since cbd and thc bind at the same receptor can the effects of thc be lessened by taking a higher dose of cbd?

Hey @Annie Sye,
I understand why you are worried. Unfortunately, I don’t know any substance that blocks THC. According to some research, CBD can slow down the THC peaks because it binds to the same receptors, but as a result, the THC stays longer in the system.
The research however shows mixed results.
The best “cure” is to help him understand that THC can worsen his condition and that he is taking health risks.
Sometimes it could help to understand people’s need for spiritual experiences. What is it he hopes to get out of the experience? Is he seeking some form of healing? Is he seeking deeper insight into himself?
If you know what moves him, you could perhaps find better alternatives that might help him better.

@Daniel Schepers unfortunately he has a delusion that it is cleansing his body. I’m at my wits end, I really don’t know what to do

@Annie Sye – what form is he taking it in? And what’s the dose?
I’ve really changed my views about CBD and THC after researching it more thoroughly, and seeing just how many benefits it can provide in the right form and dose, including anti-psychosis believe it or not!
So I’m not opposed to medical cannabis as a treatment protocol when used under proper medical guidance. I would not recommend he experiments on his own however which it sounds like he is at the moment. However if he is interested in exploring this option, I would actually help him find an experienced doctor who is prescribing medical cannabis and have a proper discussion about whether or not this could help him.
From what I’ve learned, CBD doesn’t directly stimulate our endocannabinoid system like THC does, but it makes it work better. It also counteracts some of the negatives so it allows for higher doses of THC, which provides a bigger benefit together with less side effects.
I found these educational videos by Dr. Dave Gordon very helpful if you’re curious to learn more. Dr. Dave is a medical cannabis expert with training in integrative and functional medicine as well. You can try to contact him to see if he consults virtually, or request a referral to someone near you.

@Bernadette Abraham that’s good to hear at least. Thank you for explaining that.
He’s taking gummies. Each gummy has 10 mg thc. He takes anywhere from one to two a day.
He started taking half then increased to 1-2. He says he doesn’t want to take it for long. He mentioned that it helps clear his mind, and he’ll stop taking it as soon as he’s feeling better.
He’s slowly warming up to the idea of seeing doctors. We’re waiting for him to improve just a bit more and be at a point where he’s willing to get tests done, once that happens, we will get all of the testing done you had suggested.
I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense. I feel the stress had made me less coherent.
Thank you B.
