My brother has digsetve distress only while travelling , such as heart burn, cramps , bloating , long gaps for meals , no diarrhea.

Has had h-pylori ( but negative now with help of matulta tea) ,

No probiotics seem to help him ( they all give him cramps as we have tried the ones recommended on the programs) . Why does it only increase while travel. Should we try any suggestions mentioned on travellers diarrhea ?

    1. Throne peptiguard should this be taken while travel as S.boulardi gives him cramps ?
    2. once back should we get on GI- DETOX ?

@Sheetal Ramchandani if your brother experiences digestive distress while travelling and he’s had a history of H Pylori, which of the 3 main digestive players (stomach acid, bile, pancreatic enzymes) do you think is mostly being compromised?

Travel is a form of stress on the body, and being in a sympathetic state from stress will naturally compromise digestion, and more specifically stomach acid. (did you guess that?)

I encourage you to watch THIS video from the Gut Health Masterclass course to better understand this key principle because it will help you understand my recommendation below.

Since your brother had a recent history of H Pylori overgrowth, he likely still has insufficient stomach acid, which is a consequence of H Pylori infection. And the stress of travel may likely be compromising it further and pushing him over the edge, which is why it may only be happening while he’s travelling. This would be my best educated guess based on what you’ve shared.

He can also try the stomach acid test using the baking soda challenge in THIS video. It’s not diagnostic, but it can give him insight about stomach acid status.

Therefore, supplementing with HCL betaine with pepsin while travelling would be what I would personally take if I was in his situation – not a probiotic, nor a binder like GI-detox. Of course, note that taking betaine while having an H Pylori overgrowth is contraindicated. But given that it’s now negative, stomach acid support would not only help overall digestion, but also prevent a recurrence of H Pylori overgrowth, since low stomach acid is one of the factors that can lead to an overgrowth in the first place. Makes sense?

In terms of how much, it really depends on each person’s unique needs and we generally recommend the dosing challenge which you can find instructions on HERE.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you B,

His Distress reason is low stomach acid ( not bile or pancreatic enzyme ) as you have rightly mentioned it.

I did consider HCL betaine with pepsin, mid meal for him however was doughtful about betaine while having H- pylori and was not sure if that would impact him negatively. Attached below is his H-pylori report that says negative ( this has been possible with the amzing matulta tea results ) , thus this leads to my next two questions – 1. should he continue the matulta tea for one more month ? does it have ant side effects or implications for continuing it ? it was just taken for one month so far.

Should he take the HCL betaine wit pepsin mid meal only while travelling or start here first , understand the dosage well and then contine only while travelling ?

Thank you for answering all the above so patiently , i am so thankful for your time and patience.

@Sheetal Ramchandani the question of whether or not to continue for another month depends on his symptoms. And you are correct, it is contraindicated to be taking betaine with an H Pylori infection.

However, to prevent a recurrence, stomach acid support is usually recommended once H Pylori is negative. The dose of supplementation will vary; a person usually needs less with vegetarian proteins vs. eating a steak diner. A person will also usually need more while travelling because of the effect of stress on overall digestive secretions. Hope that helps.

    Thank you B,

So I’ll try HCl mid meal here for a few weeks ( ideally 2 weeks ) ( also I’ll chk with what dosage of HCL works for him him ) , post trying for two weeks I’ll ask him to take HCL only during travel and regularly ( do u think this is the right way forward )

Can matulta tea n HCL been taken together ? Are there any side effects as the report attached says 0.11 as reading and is negative

@Sheetal Ramchandani Matula tea and HCL can be taken at the same time but away from each other. Matula should be on an empty stomach and betaine mid-meal.

In the HCL dosing challenge instructions, you’ll notice it mentions that if a person can’t tolerate any dosage of betaine at all, then a period of gut healing is needed first. Keep that in mind.

From experience, HCL support is often needed longer than just 2 weeks. Remember to ask what caused hypochlorhydria in the first place? What created the environment for H Pylori to overgrow? For example, if it’s caused by low thyroid function, then it’s a good idea to support the body with HCL support while addressing thyroid health. Makes sense?

Thanks B , I’ll ask the relevant questions however what I know so far is it’s due to H-pylori ( and h-pylori was passed on via his side as she too had it )
However , for now it’s matulta tea on empty stomach and HCL retained with pepsin mid meal ( dosage as per that’s needed after trying it out according to the HCL recommendation)

@Sheetal Ramchandani you shared a link to zinc carnosine and another one to betaine with pepsin. Is that what you meant to send or were you trying to show me 2 types of HCL support?

    Hey @Sheetal Ramchandani,

The brand Solary tests its supplements quite extensively (just check here if you’re interested). I think it’s a good choice!
