    Hi B.& Daniel,

Mum has been hospitalised with an infection and inflammation in a small section of her colon following a CT scan.

She’s receving the below antibiotic via a cannula.

    About co-amoxiclav

At some point, I am keen for her to have a GI map stool test, but the problem is for her to provide a sample in sync with shipping of the kit. Could she take a laxative like laxido which she currently does to help her go.

The reason why she was hospitalised was due to severe abdominal pain and vomiting yellow liquid.

She has an appointment on May 30th to meet the gastroenterologist following an endoscopy, sibo test and stomach emptying study. The only outstanding test is colonscopy which is too much for her to take as she’s never been in the right of frame of mind to do the preparation.

Hi @Naveed Aslam how is your mom doing now that she’s been on antibiotics?

Regarding your question about the stool sample, you can always freeze the sample if the shipping service is not available at the time when the sample is collected.

    @Bernadette Abraham Hi. B.

Mum still hasn’t been able to open her bowels despite the laxido. They have increased to two sachets. If still no difference, they will give her suppositories.

    Infection markers have improved.

Unfortunately, her renal function has impaired due to the dye given during the CT scan. Her creatinine today was 400 and egfr 14. It was 23 before we went to A&E last Wednesday. They are now hydrating her with saline and getting her to drink as much as she can. She’s lost her appetite and also not drinking. They’ve inserted a catheter to monitor how much she’s expelling and for her comfort so that she doesn’t keep going to the washroom. Unfortunately, it’s not very comfortable and she’s prone to UTIs when inserting catheter.

The big concern for me is the renal function.

Tomorrow, they’ll carry out an ultrasound of the abdomen to see if the inflammation has reduced.

Mum really needs to open her bowels to check for any other specific infections and also calcprotectin. Also, of there is any blood.

    She’s even more weak now.

    More upsetting news B.

Mum’s egfr is now 7 and creatinine is 480.

Is there anything she can try which I can run pass the doctors to increase the egfr and lower creatinine?

@Naveed Aslam I’m really sorry to hear this. Did the suppository help? If not, ask if it’s possible to do an enema to clear out her colon. It’s good that they’re keeping her well hydrated.

I’m not sure how helpful herbal remedies will be in her condition, but I’m going to share my reply to another member recently about ways to improve kidney health and function with studies so you can discuss these with her doctor:

In terms of nutrients and supplements, there are many different herbs and nutrients to consider. For example:

Omega-3 fatty acids. Here’s a study that shows how it can reduce proteinuria

Astragalus is a known herb for its kidney-protective properties, particularly in reducing proteinuria and improving renal function in patients with chronic kidney disease. Here’s a study.

Cordyceps is also used in improving kidney function and reducing proteinuria, largely due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Here’s a review.

Curcumin (turmeric) has also shown benefits in improving urinary protein excretion. Here’s the study.

    And there are many more…

There are supplements that offer a blend of all of these and more like Kidney Care by QuickSilver.

In terms of teas to consider, nettle leaf, dandelion root, ginger, and marshmallow root can all be helpful. In the US, I like Mountain Rose Herbs for sourcing herbs in bulk.

And as a food, parsley is wonderful for the kidneys. So if he likes Tabouli salad, encourage him to eat it regularly.

She wasn’t given a suppository at all yesterday. I’ve arrived at the hospital and asked the staff nurse. They’ve just inserted it.

Thank you for the remedies to try. I will run it pass the doctors.
