     – in general, if I’m in a rush, I’ll just remove the frozen veggies from their bag, put them in a metal strainer, and run them under warm/room temperature filtered water at my tap.

    Another alternative is to put the frozen veggie bag in a deep plate or bowl and put them in the fridge to defrost overnight. The reason for the bowl is because it will defrost and cause a liquid mess without it.

    And sometimes, I don’t bother defrosting my veggies if they’re going to be cooked anyway. For example, if I’m making shepherd’s pie, I don’t really defrost my frozen corn kernels. I just sprinkle it on frozen and put the whole dish in the oven. Or if I’m using leftover veggie pasta sauce that I had previously made and frozen for example, I’ll just throw it into my sauce pot and let it defrost while reheating it on the stove.

    So there’s a few different options…

    I usually put my frozen veggies/foods with bag and all in a big bowl of water. Because water transports heat 10x faster then air (this is why washing your hand with room temperature water feels much colder than having your hands in room temperature air), everything frozen will warm up to room temperature much quicker. 

    The trick is however to have a big bowl. It won’t defrost as fast as Bernadettes trick, but it will keep the veggies dry.

    thank you   – my sole purpose and only for now is to toss them in the air fryer. It’s the only reason I’ve been able to eat at home. I’ve been putting them in water bringing them to a boil and then tossing them in the air fryer. I have no idea if that’s OK and keeps its nutrients. 

    Was also thinking of buying one of those steamer whatever they’re called and try that?

     if you want to steam your frozen veggies, then no need to defrost them. Buy a steamer basket (it’s a stainless steel basket that opens up like a flower and sits inside any size pot), and steam without defrosting. IKEA sells them in the kitchenware section.

    Instructions: Add a bit of water in your pot, place your steamer basket inside (try not to fill it with too much water – you don’t want food touching the water to help preserve nutrients). Add your frozen veggies in the stainless steel steamer basket, cover your sauce pot, boil water then turn it down and simmer. 

    To preserve nutrients in food, avoid putting them in boiling water, unless you plan on consuming the liquid (like in soups for example).

     thank you! I only need it for the air fryer. That’s why I was putting them in water to boil first. So I’ll try your way of defrosting OR steaming then air frying. Hope I understood correctly?

     just defrost them under running water and stick them in your air fryer if that’s how you want to cook them. No need to boil/steam them first.

     as in wash them with water or as in a bowl and the bowl in water?

     anyway you like. You can put them in a bowl of water and let them thaw out that way, or put them in a strainer under running water (which wastes water) but sometimes it doesn’t take much to remove the ice.
