Bitter Gourd
Posted by naslam1603 on April 13, 2023 at 6:42 pmHi B. and Daniel,
Bought bitter gourd today. This will kick start my sluggish bile.
I use to love this with mince meat or lamb meat pieces.
This time, it’ll be simple. Saute and then soften it in water with a little salt.

Hey ,
I have never tried it. It is very hard to get here in The Netherlands. The good thing it might also help you with your stool. It has a laxative effect.
One thing to be aware of is that high consumption of Bitter Gourd can also cause abdominal pain. I don’t know how much Bitter Gourd is ‘high consumption’, but I thought you should be aware!
How does it taste?
-
, Oh. I didn’t know it had a laxative effect. It’s very popular in the far east and South East Asia.
Mum use to make it as a curry. The inside flesh would either made with lamb mince meat or lamb meat. The outer rough skin would even be made with only mince meat.
This time round, I’m not going to have the skin and only the flesh.
It’s extremely bitter. To remove some of the bitterness, mum would run table salt in it after peeling and cutting it for two hours.
I haven’t had it yet. I’ll take pics to show the inside and once prepared.

Thanks for the tip about the abdominal pain. I already have it on a daily basis, so will be careful. I only bought one piece.
You can also get bitter gourd juice which is used to control blood sugar level in diabetic patients.

I’ll just sauté it and simmer in a little water to soften it. I’ll have it with courgettes, carrots and pak choi and turnips. Just like a stir fry.

Thanks for the tips! I’m in my ‘curry recipe’ period! I will search for it, so thanks for the inspiration!

Nice one. Not sure if there is a China Town near you. You could try there or if there are Pakistani or Indian stores.

Sorry, when I mention on a daily basis, I mean abdominal pain and not bitter gourd.

It’ll be bitter gourd today. Skin removed with a peeler, seeds removed and left with this flesh which have been cut into small pieces. Salt added to remove some of the bitterness for a couple of hours Otherwise too bitter.
Will add to the other vegetables. [IMG20230418121528.jpg]

Hey ,
It looks really good. We should share more recipes together!

Hahaha. It’s not great. This is the outcome. I didn’t have time for the chicken. So just through in 4 pieces of prawns.
Had the mould inspector guy come round today.
Tied up with him.
