    Hi Bernadette,

My son ( 6 months) is taking antibiotics due to an ear infection. Will like to give him probiotics to support the immune system. He has started solids 3 weeks ago- any probiotics you recommend or any food that will help at this stage? Giving coconut kefir atm. Thanks

sorry your son is having an ear infection. Have you seen my go-to protocols when an illness hits my family, including ear infections? Mullein garlic oil and silver hydrosol work like magic alongside immune support for ear infections. The brands are linked in that guide. I’ve successfully used those for my kids. Of  course, antibiotics can indeed be helpful with severe infections, but I personally always like to try a more natural approach by supporting immune function, before resorting to antibiotics since they decimate the gut microbiome.

Your request for probiotics is a wise one! It can take several months (6-9 months) to repopulate the gut microbiome after just 1 course of antibiotics, so definitely continue with the kefir and other forms of fermented foods regularly and long term.

Since antibiotics reduce both the beneficial and pathogenic bacteria, this creates an environment for yeast to overgrow. That’s why I often recommend Klaire Labs ABx support during and 30 days after courses of antibiotics since it contains a beneficial type of yeast called S Boulardii, as well as lacto and bifido strains. This is a capsule, so it can be opened up and sprinkled directly into his milk or gently on the breast if you’re breast feeding.

I then switch to Klaire Labs Therbiotic Baby for several months in addition to fermented foods.

Wishing your son an effective recovery!

    Hi B

My oldest son ( 5) has algo undergo several rounds of antibiotics since Dec and if the current green mocus doesn’t disappear the dr is recommending another course. Can I give the same probiotic described above? I just ordered these. Any specific dose for the 6 months and the 5 years old? Thanks

yes, definitely be supporting his gut microbiome as well after taking so many rounds of antibiotics. Working on gut health will support immune health and make them more resilient as well to illnesses in the future.

For kids, I like Klaire Labs Therbiotic Complete Powder.

Regarding child dosing, here is Clark’s Rule: for children aged 2-17. Take the child’s weight in pounds and divide by 150 pounds. Multiply the fractional result by the adult dose to find the equivalent child dosage. For example, if an adult dose of tincture calls for 30 drops and the child weighs 30 pounds, divide the child’s weight by 150 (30/150) to get 1/5. Multiply 1/5 times 30 drops to get 6 drops. This method can also be used for elders and cats.

I use a similar rule for powder as well.

hi! Finally received the supplements but looking at dosage for my 5 year old son:
    – his weight is 17kg=37 pound
    I divide this by 150.

The adult dosage says 1/4 spoon.

Hence (37/150) * 0.25 gives me a dosage I cannot really calculate! What am I missing? Should half of an adult dosage suffice?

haha – you’re doing it correctly. In general, children take about 1/4 to 1/3rd the adult dose, so you can eyeball it. If you have measuring teaspoons, there’s usually a 1/8th measuring teaspoon. It would be half of that basically.

De Bernadette my little one has again an ear infection. Not very severe so I want to avoid antibiotics.
What is the amount and frequency I should apply Mullen garlic oil and silver hydrosol? He is 11 months. Anything else? What shall I give for inmune support? Will IAG work? Thanks

I would do it at least 3 x per day and yes IAG is my go-to for immune support along with vitamin A, D and zinc (all liquid)
