Help with Hair Loss
Hi everyone!
Today’s tip is about understanding why we lose hair. In the symptom dictionary, you can find some recommendations on what to do when you are losing hair and this tip will be more of a guide on how to choose remedies for that handout.
There can be different mechanisms at play when we lose hair. Depending on the mechanism, some choices are better than others. In this tip you will learn:
-
The four different stages in which hair grows.
-
When do we talk about hair loss?
-
The different common factors that can influence hair regeneration.
The 4 different stages in which hair follicles can be.
We have between 80.000-120.000 hair follicles on our heads (according to this article).
The 3 stages are:
-
The Anagen phase: In this stage, the hair follicle will grow hair. It does that at an average speed of 0.35 mm per day. Most hair follicles (80-90%) on your head are in this stage. This active growth phase of hair lasts between 2 and 8 years.
-
The Catagen phase: This stage is a transition stage going from the anagen stage to the telogen stage. It lasts about 6 to 8 weeks. In this stage hair growth slows down.
-
The Telogen phase: In this stage, your hair follicles are at rest. The resting hair remains in the follicle until it is pushed out by the growth of a new anagen hair. This stage can last a couple of months (on average 3 months).
