    Hi B

In the Gut Health Masterclass under Causes of low stomach acid you mention the intake of ‘several and a lot’ minerals as 1 cause.

For someone who struggles with low stomach acid due to use of PPI’s in the past, an H-Pylori infection in the past and an ongoing sluggish thyroid, I do take HCL with Pepsin with my meals to support protein digestion.

I, however, also take minerals. In the morning it’s my warm water with sole and lemon. And I add few drops of ConcenTrace Trace Minerals to my water when I workout.

And let’s not forget the other Thyroid supporting minerals I take daily such as Zinc, Selenium, Iodine. Which I will have checked this months to see where my levels are at.

So my question is, is that considered as ‘several and a lot’?

Hi , may I ask did you encounter gastritis as a result of H. Pylori infection? If yes, is the inflammation clear now?

I am still not able to clear my gastritis and therefore not able to take betaine HCL with pepsin. I am not able to digest protein.

I worked with B and did her protocol of Gastromend and Broccoli Sprouts. After retesting of H Pylori was negative, I started HCL and we did lots of gut healing, too. No gastritis here

since minerals are alkaline, taking a bunch of them at once can raise the pH of our stomach acid. The amount really depends on the individual and their level of stomach acid production, so it’s a hard question to answer as it’s not really measurable on a day to day basis.

I mentioned taking mineral supplements as a possible root cause because some people may have just enough stomach acid to digest their meals, but then when they start supplementing with minerals, all of a sudden, they notice a regression in their digestive capacity.

So I guess the better measure and question for you is, do you feel your digestion is impacted when you take your minerals? If not, then you’re probably fine.

have you been able to clear the H Pylori yet?

ok, understood. No, I feel my digestion is the same as prior to taking minerals and now.

please also share what you’ve been taking in terms of gut healing agents. I believe you’re drinking slippery elm and marshmallow root tea correct? Anything else in terms of gut healing support/supplements?

     B. I’ll create a new post as I’ve hijacked this post.

    Sorry

    Hey ,

In addition to how you feel, you can also follow blood markers. It’s a nice exercise to do as well.  Vitamin B12, iron and protein digestion need good strong stomach acid. Changes in time in markers related to iron, B12 and protein digestion can help you assess your stomach acid.

For example, to assess iron uptake you can see how your serum iron, ferritin, hemoglobin and MCV are changing.
For vitamin B12 you can asses serum B12, MCV and red blood cell count/white blood cell count. The liver can store B12 for a few years. For that reason, in general, serum B12 might change a bit slower than the iron markers.
For protein breakdown, you can take a look at Total Protein and Globulin for example.

You can look at how these patterns change over time when you try a different dose of betaine HCl with pepsin.

     hi!
My last blood test was end of March, and when I checked the results, I put myself on HCL since Iron, Calcium, Protein, Globulin and Zinc all were low. So now, with next blood test I hope those numbers have improved.
At the same time my Ferritin was slightly elevated but iron low. I knew I was missing Vitamin A, B’s and copper to help with the absorption,  so took care of that too.
But honestly, I do not feel the difference whether I take HCL or not.
Will keep you posted on the new results, but I was so stressed in the past months that I might wait it out
