    Hello!

I am planning to do a SIBO breath test soon and have come across conflicting information regarding preparation and duration. I want to make sure I follow the correct dietary guidelines and other pre-test instructions for the most accurate results.

Could I please get advice on:

The foods/ medication/supplements to avoid beforehand with duration?

I am currently on Duloxetine and Slippery Elm and my diet consists of chicken/beef and carrot/zucchini.

    Thank you 😃

@R-S – most SIBO breath tests follow very similar prep rules; the same restricted diet, fasting, and limits on meds/supplements. The main difference is usually just the test drink itself (lactulose or glucose). But because each lab can have small variations, it’s best to follow the prep sheet that comes with your specific kit to get the most accurate results.

For example, here are the preparation instructions for the glucose test from Nordic Labs (which is similar to the lactulose test).

Do you know which company/brand of test you’ll be using? If you send us the instructions they provide, we can help you interpret them.

I am doing the lactulose test at a local lab, unsure of what brand they use exactly, according to siboinfo.com the lactulose is the most accurate of all and that is the available one thankfully.

It seems the most similar instructions are the same, no spices, fruits or vegetables and not to take any herbs or supplements at least 24 hours prior, so I am assuming the safest thing is to avoid everything but plain chicken/beef for 24 hours prior and then the 12 hour fast and hopefully all goes well!

    Thank you so much!
