I had recommended Digestion GB by Pure Encapsulations first and foremost since it has a combination of digestive enzymes that will help break down your food better without stimulating stomach acid production, and some liver/gallbladder support with taurine, ox bile (bovine), and milk thistle. The taurine and ox bile may help stimulate motility as well, so this would be my first trial option.
If it does not suit you however, then an enzyme-only formula might be a better option. Gas Stop by Renew Life & Digest Spectrum by Enzymedica are purely enzyme formulas that will help break down your food better. Those with SIBO often do well with Gas Stop since it also has fennel to help relieve gas & bloat in addition to enzymes. But Digest Spectrum is also an excellent digestive enzyme for those with many food intolerances.
The Gas & Bloat by Gaia Herbs is for symptom relief when you’re really suffering. It contains carminative herbs like fennel, chamomile, and peppermint plus activated charcoal. Because of the charcoal, it should be taken away from food and supplements or else it can bind to minerals from food as well.
Hope this helps clarify the different options.

MemberJanuary 1, 2023 at 8:31 am in reply to: Hi! My daughter is 6 weeks pregnant. This is the same daughter that has struggled with vertigo, migraines and gut issues.there are many reasons why women experience nausea during pregnancy, the shift in hormones being one of them for sure. Is her nausea severe with vomiting?
The increase in hormones does also put more strain on the liver to detoxify the spent hormones, thus removing anything that can strain the liver can help (cleaning up personal hygiene products, eating more organic if possible, eliminating anything that requires liver detox like caffeine, artificial sweeteners, etc), as well as balancing blood sugar levels (how’s her diet?). Sleep quality is important too since good liver and hormone function rely on quality sleep.
In addition to ginger tea/supplements, here are some foods that support liver/gallbladder health:
• Beet kvass (recipe in in handouts in Resources section)
• Beets cooked any way served with a little coconut oil, butter or extra virgin olive oil
• A squeeze of lemon in water
• Turmeric in dishes
• Garlic, lightly cooked
• Extra virgin olive oil
• Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, etc
• Greens (dandelion, turnip, beet, arugula)Other issues may be associated with morning sickness:
• Estrogen and progesterone imbalances
• Thyroid levels
• Serotonin and leptin levels
• Immune system dysregulation
• H pylori infection and pregnancy induced changes to the upper GI
• High histamine levelsWith regards to lower blood pressure, this is actually normal in early pregnancy and will usually return to its previous level during the third trimester.
Low blood pressure during pregnancy happens mainly because of progesterone which helps relax the walls of the blood vessels and increase the flow of blood to mom and baby. However if her levels drop below 90/60 and if she’s concerned, seek medical attention right away. Lower blood pressure in pregnancy can be the result of an ectopic pregnancy.
In general, tell her to:
• Slow down and take it easy. Avoid making sudden movements, and take her time when standing up. If she feels dizzy, have her lie down on her left side to increase blood flow to her heart.• Hydrate! This increases blood volume, and thus blood pressure. In addition, adding ‘sole’ may help. Here’s the video where I discuss hydration further.
Hope this helps!

1-2 grams of mastic gum taken on an empty stomach (30 mins before food or 2 hours after food) is generally the recommended dosage per day.
And no, contrary to its name GI Relief does also provide gut healing nutrients that can heal gastritis. You’re on the right track – I hope you’re starting to feel some relief with this product.

Does he have an itchy bum? Is it pinworms? Have you taken him to be tested?
I personally use Cedar Bear products for my kiddos because it’s liquid and they’ve never minded taking it. You can watch my “anti-parasitics” video in the Gut Health Masterclass for more details but let me know if you have any other questions after watching it.

yes, there is a test to check the total histamine degradation capacity. Here’s a sample report: https://dnalifevms.com/ProductPDF/Histamine.DAO.19.10_STR_1748.pdf
The cost is $199 plus shipping and takes approx 21 days +/- 5 days.
Let us know if you need access to that test. Just email support@bernadetteabraham.com with your full name, date of birth, email address, shipping/billing address (if different), phone number.
And no, I would not advise starting a detox protocol until you’re done breastfeeding as it will come out in breast milk.

correct, DAO is the enzyme that helps with the breakdown of histamines. I like Seeking Health’s Histamine Digest product but it is derived from porcine: https://us.fullscript.com/o/catalog/products/U3ByZWU6OlByb2R1Y3QtODE4MDA=/U3ByZWU6OlZhcmlhbnQtMTA3NzY5/
You can also take a look at their Histamine Probiotic “ProBiota HistaminX” as a nice complement which is suitable for vegetarians.
For systemic use to manage histamine levels and not just before histamine rich foods, it’s to be taken on an empty stomach 1-3 x per day.
Unfortunately, there are no DAO products on the market derived from a vegetarian source. You can however look at food therapy options like sprouting pea seedlings: https://healinghistamine.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Pea-seedlings-as-a-supplement.pdf

It’s on the list for January’s handouts. It should be up in the next 2 weeks.

I saw your message but my computer decided to die on me before I could reply a few days ago and my iPad isn’t cooperating so my apologies for this 1 big paragraph reply without spacing.
Pinworms and Dientamoeba fragilis are 2 different types of parasites. Pinworms are helminths and DF are protozoa.
Pinworms are very common in children and they spread easily – think of kids playing in sand, putting everything into their mouths, very little concept of personal hygiene (let’s face it, kids are dirty little humans ). Biggest tell-tale sign is an itchy bum, especially at night when they come out of the anus to lay more eggs! (I know it’s gross but it’s all part of the parenthood journey!) You might also see small little worms in their stool.
Mebendazole – the active ingredient in Vermox is effective but take a look at the “other” non-active ingredients added. This has always turned me off… GMO corn starch, hydrogenated vegetable oil, FD&C yellow No.6 more specifically.
Another medication that is effective is Pyrantel Pamoate. Reese’s Pinworm medicine includes that with less “nasties”. https://www.amazon.com/REESES-MEDICINE-PYRANTEL-PAMOATE-SUSPENSION/dp/B01A1C6ET2
These medications are effective and easy; they usually only need 2 doses. Once at the first sign of pinworms and another 2 weeks after.
Also make sure that you’re washing everything often in hot water. Use detergent and vinegar and make sure you and your family are washing your hands often, especially under the nails. You can also apply non-petroleum jelly and rub it on the anus at night to prevent egg-laying and re-infection after kids itch their bums.
During this time, eating probiotic rich foods or taking probiotics is also a good idea to help strengthen gut immunity.
The lifecycle of a pinworm varies from 5 to 13 weeks, so testing can be done after this time to ensure you got them all.
If you prefer the more natural approach, please watch the “anti-parasitics” video in the Gut Health Masterclass for options suitable for children. The natural approach does take longer however.
Hope this helps (and apologies again for this chunk of a reply – I’ll edit it once my PC is back).

good news! My application to FunctionalDX got approved. Now I’m just waiting for them to send me the login details and we’ll add it to the Resource section of the library hopefully soon.
